Outdoor Furniture Trends for 2016 by Laurie McWilliams

Outdoor Furniture Trends for 2016 by Laurie McWilliams
The 2015 International Furniture Show in Chicago occurred last week.  The show presents an exciting opportunity to see what’s trending and the new product lines that will be introduced in the coming months.

For furniture manufacturers, the focus centers on design, comfort and maintenance.  Everyone desires to be innovative, offering a different look than the competition.  It is my job to look at the track record of the manufacturer as it relates to quality, warranty issues, customer service and who provides truly functional options for my clients.

Demystifying the Hydrangea by Laurie McWilliams

Demystifying the Hydrangea by Laurie McWilliams
Oh, the timeless and beautiful hydrangea…very few plant species have had so much advice given out to ensure their success as the hydrangea.  And unfortunately, much of that advice is incorrect.  The variety of hydrangea that most people are aware of is the type that blooms with stunning pinks, blues and purples in the spring.  This variety hails from the Macrophylla family of hydrangeas, of which “Endless Summer’ is a member.  Macrophylla hydrangeas bloom on “old wood”.  What does this mean?

Blooming Potential of the Hibiscus by Laurie McWilliams

Blooming Potential of the Hibiscus by Laurie McWilliams

Under typical growing conditions, it is difficult to keep an exotic hibiscus in full bloom because so much of the plant’s energy goes into the unique bloom production. The hibiscus pictured below has had between six and eight flowers in bloom all summer and is loaded with more potential blooms!  Even the cool wet weather we’ve experienced during this growing season, which would normally be a curse to the heat-loving hibiscus, has not slowed it down.  BioFlora Dry Crumbles® have made all the difference...
